The announcement was made today at a joint news conference with AirTran officials at the airport.

As part of the event, an AirTran plane made the first landing of a commercial aircraft on the airport’s runway.

AirTran plans to fly starting May 11 from Branson to Atlanta, a hub from which it offers connecting service to many other destinations.

Airport officials anticipate getting other carriers to serve the new airport as well.

“We are working on other carriers,” Branson Airport CEO Steve Peete said. “We absolutely expect to have others.”
