FLYBE Airline To Close Norwich Base And Cancel Flights

Posted in Airline News, FLYBE AirlineNo comments

Low cost carrier, Flybe, is to close it’s Norwich, UK base and cancel flight from the Norfolk airport putting the jobs of Cabin Crew engineers and pilots at risk. Staff will be encouraged to apply for vacancies elsewhere and given that there are not many airline jobs in the Norfolk sticks it does seem likely that affected personnel will have to relocate.

This cannot come entirely as a complete surprise as the airlines summer 2009 schedule and advertising failed to mention Norwich. No coincidence then when we learn of the content of todays announcement. The services scheduled to operate from Norwich to Dublin have been cancelled leaving Flybe with a Summer schedule offering flights from Norwich to Glasgow and Edinburgh.

Since Flybe commenced operations from the Norfolk airport several years ago they have tried, without success, to persuade the local populous that they should board their aircraft and jet off to France, Spain, Portugal and Ireland. The local populous, they said no, So Flybe said no-go and cancelled the flights.

You can’t blame the airline for trying-perhaps the good folk of Norfolk and surrounding areas prefer to travel by tractor!
