Posted in Cockpit Crew NewsNo comments

A PILOT was lucky to escape with minor injuries when his single-engined aircraft crashed at Bankstown airport yesterday morning.

The plane, owned by Sydney Flight Training Centre, was landing on the south runway about 10.20am when it hit the ground, bouncing on to the centre runway and sustaining significant damage.

Ambulance crews were on the scene within minutes, with rescue paramedics and a doctor based at the airport running across the tarmac to the crash scene.

The male pilot, who freed himself from the wreckage, was treated for leg injuries, concussion and shock before being taken to Liverpool Hospital where he was in a stable condition.

A spokeswoman for Bankstown airport said their emergency response plan was activated and the airport was briefly closed.

Airport crews towed the damaged plane from the runway.
